WOCAN Coffee talk
A Discussion on “Code-switching”

sponsored and moderated by Subaru of America

featuring Dr. Monica Curry Ed.D, Manager of Diversity, EQUITY and Inclusion

join WOCAN and Subaru for a
“coffee talk” on “code-switching”

Subaru of America will be hosting a special “Coffee Talk” at our October WOCAN meeting.

What is a Coffee Talk?

A coffee talk resembles a book club setting, where attendees read an article or watch a TedTalk prior to the event and come prepared to engage in a rich dialogue with their peers. Coffee talks allow for perspective-sharing and perspective-hearing and provide some participants the power of being heard, while others an opportunity to walk in someone else's shoes.

In preparation for the upcoming WOCAN Coffee Talk, please take 20 - 25 minutes to read the article “The Costs of Code-Switching”* and reflect on the questions/statements listed below. These questions will be the basis of the conversation during the coffee talk.

• What information resonated with you from the pre-work?

• What questions did this raise for you?

• What are stories anyone wants to share regarding their experience with these situations.

• How can leaders in your organization support you through these experiences?

• What can leaders in your organization do introduce or maintain open safe dialogue?

*If you DO NOT have a subscription to Harvard Business Review, you will only be able to access the article 3 times in one month. You may want to copy and paste the article into a Word Doc if referring back to it more than 3 times.
